M. Lucius Pomerantz, MD
Ortho Hand Surgeon, BJJ Black Belt, Professional MMA Fighter
Dr M Lucius (“Luke”) Pomerantz left California briefly for medical school at Albany Medical College in New York before returning to UC San Diego for his orthopedic surgery residency. He then decided to specialize in surgery of the hand and did a fellowship at the Campbell Clinic in Memphis, TN before returning to San Diego to start his practice. His practice includes trauma care and sports medicine.
Athletics have always been a large part of his life and he began wrestling in junior high, which led to Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. He has carried this sport with him now for over 20 years. While in medical school he competed in amateur boxing and subsequently competed in professional mixed martial arts. He received his black belt from Dean Lister and Jeff Glover in 2017.
He credits BJJ to providing balance to the stressful world of medicine and loves combining his two passions, which this is the theme of this website as well as his YouTube channel “Cut to the Bone” and his Instagram page Dr_Lucius.
